Ushas Yoga

A Dawning of Awareness

Home

Welcome to Ushas Yoga, where yoga is about continual dawnings of awareness in your practice. I named my practice after Ushas, which is the Sanskrit name for “goddess of the dawn.” I chose this name as it felt to me like the most representative of how I feel when I practice yoga. Layer after layer unfolds with practice, showing you the continual newness, preciousness and vitality of this life. After the dark night of difficulty, the dawn brings solace to our spirits. This is what I offer you – a commitment to the practice and a promise of new awareness in this life.

    How did you discover yoga?

I discovered yoga when I was about 22 years old. I broke up with a partner, was 60 pounds overweight and struggled with depression. Yoga gave me the strength to become healthy and recover physically and emotionally from the relationship and to recover my physical health. Then, 4 years ago I became ill with chronic fatigue syndrome, along with a host of other health issues. Yoga was an integral part in the the physical and mental disciplines that allowed me to stay the course, have faith in myself and recover my health completely in less than two years. I am now the healthiest and happiest I’ve been in my whole life!

What kind of yoga do you teach and practice?

I have practiced in the style of Ashtanga, Anusara, Forrest, Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga. The main types of yoga I practice and teach is Vinyasa Flow, Yin and Therapeutic yoga, however I continue to learn and be open to teaching whatever my students need.

What do you offer your students?

I offer my students my sensitive and responsive nature as an instructor. I am interested in sparking the fire in your spirit to inspire you to incorporate the benefits of yoga into your life, enabling you to walk a path of health, peace and happiness.

How long have you been practicing?

    About 11 years.

    What certifications do you have?

I have completed my 200 hour Yoga Instructor certification through the Asheville Yoga Center in 2007 and completed my Yin Yoga Instructor certification in May 2008. I am working toward my 500 hour certification. I have also completed a certification course in Therapeutic Yoga.

Anna is one of the most sensitive and giving yoga teachers I have come across in my 10+ years of attending yoga classes. Her playful approach to asana and her gift for expressing an inner joy and light are such an inspiration. She has an deep knowledge and understanding of the intricacies of the yoga postures and I continue to refer to her (outside of class, too!) with any questions I have. For me, Anna has inspired a passion for the practice and a loving dedication to yoga. I highly recommend her classes, workshops and therapeutic sessions!
